We headed back for our U.S. trip this year at the end of April. Foster and John first for a week and then Kai and I followed. First stop--Iowa to see our new nephew Max and Grandma's new house.
We had a few hiccups flying, but Kai was a trooper. He loved plugging the ear phone jacks in and out--it was really sweet and entertained him for literally an hour or more. We had to do a quick transit between flights in Munich and I strapped Kai into the Ergo and we were off--elbows moving everyone out of the way who dared to get in our path. Getting to Chicago though our luck ran out and we missed our flight to KC. John found that there was a flight to Des Moines leaving later in the evening. After some haggling with the airline attendants--thanks to Kai for being cute and quite I think it helped they decided that yes putting us on a flight that night which was pretty empty was better than paying for a hotel. John headed out from KC and literally walked in the airport door as we got off the plane.
Our days were filled with hanging out with Grandma, checking out her new neighborhood and lots of cousin time on the playgrounds. Foster learned a new card game from Grandma called Trash. Luckily playing with Grandma means you win a lot :) as he found out. We got lots of snuggles in with baby Max, who is as sweet as can be. We also ate copious amounts of guacamole and drank lots of craft beers and wondering the aisles of the grocery store in awe. So many choices of everything.
We also played tourists in Des Moines and checked out Living History Farms, an outdoor museum showing life in the 1800's, the zoo, the sculpture park downtown, and the Farmer's Market.
