And on his Farm he had a.....

One of Foster's favorite songs came to life when we visited a local farm. Although not far from the city, the farm still had pigs, cows, chickens, a real garden and of course tractors (Foster's favorite, although a close second were the pigs wallowing around in the mud). We felt like we had walked onto Old McDonald's Farm, red barn and all.

Air and Space Museum with Grandma

While Grandma was here, we made a special trip to the Udvar-Hazy Center, which is part of the National Air and Space Museum downtown. There are 2 hangers full of airplanes, helicopters, and space ships--everything that an airplane loving almost three year old could ever want!

Snuggling with Grandma

Grandma's visit included lots of snuggle time, which Kai loved. We are so lucky that she got to come out and spend time with us!

At 3 weeks Kai's awake time has started to increase. 

He absolutely loves our ceiling fan in the front room and can be 

mesmerized for a long time just by staring at it. 

He also enjoys being in the middle of the action of Foster playing.

Cuteness overload

Kai was a super cooperative model today. We celebrated his two week birthday by taking some pictures with some of the special gifts he received from his Aunt Whitney.

Kai's first bath. No sink sponge bath for this little boy, nope right into the big boy tub with his big brother!

Kai wore this cute outfit, that we brought Foster home from the hospital in, looks like he will only get to wear it one time like is brother.

Having Fun with Grandma

Yay! Grandma Becky arrived and boy have we had fun!! Visiting parks, and strolling through D.C. and lots of cuddling with Kai. This Saturday we went to D.C.'s Truck Touch, a parking lot full of firetrucks, helicopters, concrete trucks, everything a little almost three year old's heat could desire.

And this is what I do 90% of the day

We came home from the hospital on the 27th and most of Kai's days are spent cuddling, sleeping, punctuated by eating. He is a super sweet baby and isn't fussy until it's time to eat. He has been on a few outings so far, his first was to the pediatrician's office. He seemed to like the Metro ride, although never opened his eyes once.

Welcome Kai Meagher Mataya

Kai Meagher Mataya arrived on May 25th, at 12:54. He was a healthy 9 pounds 1 ounce and 21 inches long. We were getting pretty antsy for his arrival to say the least. He was born at 41 weeks and 1 day, just like his big brother. 

Mom had been feeling light contractions for about a week and every day felt like "today is the day."  We even called the midwife on Saturday night thinking that we would be coming in and she said, "take a nap," which Sutton did and promptly the contractions stopped, maybe Kai decided he also needed a nap. Finally, on Sunday everything speeded up. Sutton walked at a park near by for about an hour and a half, hoping to jumpstart things and it worked. We had dinner, with Sutton having to stand every once in a while to walk through a contraction. As the evening wore on the contractions got stronger and finally at about 11 pm, we decided it was time to head to the hospital. Aunt Whitney had come to stay with Foster, so nice to not have to bring him anywhere.

We got to the hospital at about 11:30 and Sutton went straight to the delivery room. The midwife did an exam and told us, "get ready you are going to have a baby very soon." John was Sutton's literal rock, as she held onto him through every contraction, almost putting marks on his arms she was grabbing him so tightly. About an hour later, Sutton's water broke and after 15 minutes of pushing Kai was born. He was alert and so calm. At one point the nurses said that we needed to make him cry more so that he would expel the liquid in his lungs. He started feeding right away and has not stopped.

Kai's entrance was perfect, as it was Memorial Day, so Aunt Whitney was able to stay with Foster and bring him in to meet Baby Kai that day. Foster was immediately smitten and wanted to know if we could take him home. 

Foster is loving his new role as Big Brother.
